A thoughtful essay by Brian Kaplan on EconLog: http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2012/01/tell_me_the_dif.html
History as a soft science allows many compeletely opposite views at the same time. This is a problem of belief and self-defence. If economics as a science is just general judgement or belief then it should be treated as history, i.e. a biased view of prejudiced people with own interests.
